This book by Aline Griffith, who went on to write several additional sensational books, that are considered to stretch the truth of her contributions to the U.S. intelligence community during World War II in Spain touches on her time as a spy. The donor of the book knew the author from her own time during WWII in Spain in the diplomatic corps, and her note about the author is included in the scan attached to this record.

Arthur Chestnut, a U.S. Coastguardsman stationed in St. Augustine made drawings twice a month for The Shield, the official magazine of the Training Center. Chestnut was known for poking fun at war. His humor provided much-needed stress relief for those preparing to risk their lives.

Oral history interview with Clarence Edwin Nichols about life during the Great Depression in Alabama, where he was/what he was doing on Dec. 7th. He was drafted in May 1945, and did basic training over the summer. He reenlisted after having mustered out at war's end for a short period. Most of his narrative is about life as a teenager on the home front.
